How to build one selling skill across a team in a month

Most sales leaders know which conversation is costing them deals. The security questionnaire that sits for three weeks. The AI feature the team over-promises. The partner deal that loses its owner halfway through.

The temptation is a large programme. The faster route is narrower: pick one conversation, train it for four weeks, and measure it in live deals.

Week 1: choose the conversation and the measure

Name the one conversation, in one sentence. For example: "When a customer asks whether our AI feature uses their data for training, every seller gives the same accurate answer and names the document."

Then pick a measure you can see in your CRM or deal reviews. Examples are fewer proposals returned by the customer's review, fewer escalations to presales for routine questions, or a shorter time from questionnaire received to questionnaire returned. Write down this month's starting figure.

Week 2: learn the moves

Give everyone the same short course on that conversation. At ASTRA, each course runs five to nine hours, so a seller can finish it in a week alongside quota work. The point is a shared language: the same questions, the same bounded claims, the same names for the documents that answer the customer.

Week 3: practise until it is boring

Knowing the answer is not the same as saying it under pressure. Role-play is where the habit forms. ASTRA's courses include role-plays with an AI customer who pushes back and changes the situation partway through. They are graded on a published rubric, so every seller hears the same standard.

Ask each seller to bring one live deal where the conversation is coming up, and rehearse it before the real call.

Week 4: use it in live deals and review

Review three live deals per seller against the one-sentence standard from week 1. Did the claim stay inside the evidence? Was the right document named? Was the next step small and certain? Compare the measure with the starting figure.

Then decide: lock it in and pick the next conversation, or run the same one again for the people who need it.

What to expect, honestly

A month of focused practice will not transform a team. It can make one conversation consistent, which is where deals stop stalling. The certificate of completion at the end of a course shows that someone finished the course and passed its assessment. It does not show results in your market. Your own deal measure is the evidence that matters.

Running it with ASTRA

Course team packs come in 5, 10 or 20 seats. You assign seats by email and see each person's module progress and completion. You never see the content of their practice conversations, which keeps role-play a safe place to get it wrong. When you want one standard for each seller, with a supervised exam and a credential, the certification programmes take it further.
