63% of State of FinOps respondents were managing AI spending in 2025

The FinOps Foundation’s State of FinOps 2025, presented on 20 February 2025, reported that 63% of respondents were managing AI spending, up from 31% in the prior year's survey. The survey included 861 respondents responsible for about $69 billion in public-cloud spend. [Source: FinOps Foundation, 20 February 2025.]

The sample is concentrated among substantial cloud spenders, so it should not be treated as a percentage of all organisations.

AI conversations increasingly have a cost-management dimension. Ask what creates usage, who owns the meter, how spend will be allocated and which assumptions sit behind the forecast. A modelled economic benefit is useful, but it is not a realised saving until the customer observes the operating result in the relevant workload and period first.
